Located within the historic setting of the Grade I listed St George's Church in Stockport, St George's Gardens is a heritage-led residential development that transforms the former derelict St George's Vicarage into a vibrant new community while preserving its architectural significance.
Working in collaboration with developer Harrison Hunt, JWGS Associates developed a sensitive conservation-led design that restores the distinctive Arts and Crafts vicarage, creating five contemporary apartments within the existing building. A carefully designed northern extension provides a further eight apartments, while six new red-brick family homes complement the historic setting and strengthen the character of the surrounding conservation area.
Throughout the design process, extensive engagement with Stockport Council and the local community helped shape a scheme that balances heritage conservation with modern living, delivering high-quality homes that respect the site's historic importance.
Award: Commended – Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Excellence in Planning for Communities Award (Small Schemes – 50 Homes or Less).
